Gretchen Whitmer’s oppressive lockdowns and burdensome COVID restrictions forced Michigan small businesses to shutter, with Michigan still missing 321,000 jobs compared to prior to her lockdowns.
Yet that apparently wasn’t enough for the governor as she just vetoed a bill that would boost small business employment.
Michigan House Bill 4434 would have cut off the federal government’s extended unemployment checks and encouraged workers to re-join the workforce and help put an end to the Democrat-created labor shortage. Instead, with Whitmer’s veto, small businesses across Michigan will be left without staff and forced to remain closed.
“Governor Whitmer’s cruel veto of HB 4434 will make it harder for small businesses to recover and shows a lack of concern for their needs,” said RGA Spokesperson Chris Gustafson. “Forcing small businesses to compete with the federal government hurts Michigan workers and will continue to leave the Great Lakes State behind the rest of the nation.”

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Tuesday vetoed a GOP-backed bill that would have prevented the state from distributing the additional federal $300 in weekly unemployment benefits made available because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
But the governor did allude to her willingness to end the benefit in exchange for lawmakers increasing the amount of money unemployed residents typically receive.
