Under Democrat Governor Gina Raimondo, Rhode Island’s lagging economy continues to struggle as job growth remains anemic. A new report by Bloomberg shows that Rhode Island has experienced the largest retail job losses in America over the last decade with a 7.3% decline. And with Rhode Island retail chain Benny’s announcing in September that it would close all its stores – costing over 700 jobs – the state’s retail job market shows no signs of improving under Raimondo’s weak leadership.
But it’s not just retail jobs that Rhode Island is bleeding under Raimondo. Rhode Island experienced heavy job losses in September, losing 3,700 jobs, including 250 high paying manufacturing jobs from Alexion Pharmaceuticals, which announced it would close its facility in the state even after Raimondo stated last July that their investment “represents Rhode Island’s future.” While Raimondo claims that she has “improved” Rhode Island’s business climate, the state’s job numbers simply don’t support her rhetoric.
As Rhode Island’s job market continues to lag under Raimondo’s failed management, her poor record will undoubtedly continue to be a burden for her as the state’s 2018 gubernatorial election draws closer. And with Raimondo’s poll numbers steadily declining over the last year, Rhode Islanders are clearly fed up with her lack of results on improving the state’s economy
