New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo shrugs off awkward #MeToo joke

Critics on social media quickly slammed the governor for making light of sexual harassment.

Per The New York Post:

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday shrugged off criticism about making a wisecrack that referenced the #MeToo movement.

With reporters and cameras crammed outside his Albany office on Wednesday, Cuomo emerged and asked for some space.

“I’ll bring you all up on charges under the #MeToo movement,” he joked.

Critics on social media quickly slammed the governor for making light of sexual harassment.

During an interview Thursday on WAMC radio, Cuomo said he was just trying to get some breathing space.

“I think it was an off-hand comment. I walked out into the hallway and I was assaulted by the gaggle, with pieces of equipment hitting me in all sorts of my anatomy and it was an off-hand comment just to get them to move back,” he said.

He continued to joke about it.

“The physical assault was overwhelming. But it was just an off-hand comment,” he added.
