Months after the 2018 election, GOP Governors are continuing to set an example for results-driven leadership and voters are taking notice. The latest Morning Consult quarterly gubernatorial surveys show that the top ten most popular governors are all Republicans.
Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker received the highest approval rating at 73 percent, followed closely by Governor Larry Hogan of Maryland with a 71 percent rating and New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu with 64 percent approving. Baker, Hogan, and Sununu continue to receive sky-high marks from voters despite governing states Hillary Clinton carried in 2016. Rounding out the top ten were Governors Kay Ivey of Alabama, Phil Scott of Vermont, Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas, Henry McMaster of South Carolina, Greg Abbott of Texas, Doug Burgum of North Dakota, and Bill Lee of Tennessee.
The newest GOP governors, elected in 2018 for the first time, posted strong numbers, with Ron DeSantis of Florida and Bill Lee of Tennessee both receiving 54 percent approval ratings just months into their term, making them some of the most popular state leaders in America.“Republican Governors are fighting every day to deliver real results and expand opportunity for working families in their states,” said RGA Communications Director Amelia Chassé Alcivar. “Americans all across the country are reaping the benefits of effective Republican leadership and giving their GOP governors high marks. With a majority of states under Republican chief executives today, our nation’s future looks brighter than ever.”
