New Poll: Gretchen Whitmer’s Struggling Campaign Drops To Second Place In Michigan Dem Gov Primary

Whitmer has long been the subject of growing doubts by her own party of her ability to win the general election.

The RGA writes:

Just one day after hiring her third campaign manager in less than six months, Michigan Democrat gubernatorial candidate Gretchen Whitmer is getting even more bad news as she falls to second place in the Democrat primary. A new MRG survey shows Whitmer trailing multimillionaire challenger Shri Thanedar, a dramatic shift from MRG’s last poll in September, which showed Whitmer leading Thanedar by 24 points.

Not only is Whitmer lagging behind Thanedar in name ID, but she’s also trailing him in Detroit by a large 18-point margin. Whitmer has long been the subject of growing doubts by her own party of her ability to win the general election, but now as this poll shows, she’s having trouble even winning the nomination.

WILX-TV has more:

For the Democrats, Thanedar has a three point lead over Gretchen Whitmer.

That’s a big change from September, when the poll had Whitmer leading Thanedar by 24 points.

The gubernatorial primary election is set for August.”
