‘Good Luck With That!’: Alaska’s Governor Trolls Russia Over Wild Reparations Claim

Alaska Republican Gov. Mike Dunleavy blasted a report regarding a Russian lawmaker who wants reparations from the U.S., including a return of Alaska to its control.

Per The Daily Wire:

Alaska Republican Gov. Mike Dunleavy blasted a report regarding a Russian lawmaker who wants reparations from the U.S., including a return of Alaska to its control.

“Good luck with that! Not if we have something to say about it. We have hundreds of thousands of armed Alaskans and military members that will see it differently,” Dunleavy said regarding the claim in a Tuesday post on Twitter.

Russian lawmaker and Duma member Oleg Matveychev reportedly appeared on Russian TV on “Sunday Evening With Vladimir Solovyov.”

Solovyov asked Matveychev if he meant Alaska and the former Russian settlement of Fort Ross in California.

“That was my next point. As well as the Antarctic… We discovered it, so it belongs to us… Also, the return of all medals that have been unlawfully taken from our sportsmen during all Olympic games, as well as the extradition of [Grigory] Rodchenkov, along with the extradition of multiple other criminals we’ll want. I think we should start voicing all of that, so they understand what will be on the table. You didn’t want to talk to us about something small, like Ukraine’s neutrality, here’s what you get. And that’s not even all of it,” the lawmaker said.

Solovyov also made threats on Monday after the seizure of his two Italian villas.

“I still think that those who took our money should be told, you have 24 hours to unfreeze our funds, or else we’ll send you what you know we’ve got. Your choice. Tactical or strategic, take a pick. You took our money, you’re the thieves, our talk is short with you: a bullet to the head,” he said in the report.

The bold words come as Russia’s invasion of neighboring Ukraine reaches three weeks, with widespread devastation of cities and more than three million Ukrainians fleeing the nation.

Ukraine has responded with a strong resistance movement, inflicting heavy losses on Russian military units. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s calls for help to other nations have also led to increased aid, including military funding, to assist in its fight.

On Wednesday, Zelensky addressed Congress by video, directly calling out President Joe Biden in his conclusion to “be the leader of peace.” The Daily Wire reported:

Zelensky’s message to America’s lawmakers called on the U.S. to “do more” to help bring peace to Ukraine following three weeks of violent invasion from Russia.

“In the darkest time for our country, for the whole Europe, I call on you to do more. New packages of sanctions are needed, constantly, every week until the Russian military machine stops. Restrictions are needed for everyone on whom this unjust regime is based,” Zelensky said.

The Ukrainian president also restated his desire for a no-fly zone over his nation, referring to past American tragedies such as 9/11 and Pearl Harbor.

Following the speech, it was reported that the White House was expected to announce an additional $800 million in military aid to Ukraine. The new amount is in addition to the $200 million committed on Saturday.
