As one of the nation’s most unpopular governors, Bill Walker’s re-election campaign is already facing long odds. Under his watch, Alaska has faced surging crime rates, a massive budget deficit, and the highestunemployment rate in the country.
Desperate to deflect blame before facing voters next year, Walker admitted in a recent press conference that Alaska’s economy has spiraled “downward” and the current situation is “not acceptable.” But, what’s his solution to the crisis he created? He wants to make working Alaskans pay for his failures with a tax hike.
Walker is pushing this tax hike despite what he told voters in 2014 – that he had “no intention” of supporting “a statewide tax.” Walker’s reversal and newfound support for hiking taxes is just another example of why voters can’t afford another term of his failed leadership.
