As leaders of his party increasingly advocate for impeaching the President, Louisiana Democrat Governor John Bel Edwards won’t give voters a straight answer on whether he supports their calls to do so. However, the sole Democrat member of Louisiana’s congressional delegation – and an Edwards ally – has come out in favor of impeachment. In an appearance on Face The Nation, Democrat congressman Cedric Richmond stated that impeaching President Trump is something that must be considered, calling it “the best way to get all of the facts out.”
This comes as numerous top Democrat leaders, including House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, have made it clear that they are considering impeachment. Leading Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden also stated this morning that Democrats may have “no alternative” to impeachment.
Edwards has fundraised with and for Richmond since taking office, and the two have appeared together at numerous Democrat Party events.
“John Bel Edwards’ cowardly silence as his Democrat allies openly push to impeach the President shows an utter lack of leadership,” said RGA Deputy Communications Director John Burke. “John Bel Edwards owes it to voters to let them know exactly where he stands on the issue of impeachment – with Louisianans or with the extreme leaders of his party.”
