In Blow To Dem Unity, Bernie Sanders Refuses To Back Virginia Dem Gov Nominee Ralph Northam

The news deals a serious blow to his support from Democrat grassroots voters two weeks before Election Day.

The RGA writes:

Still reeling from his worst week on the campaign trail, Democrat Virginia gubernatorial candidate Ralph Northam received more bad news yesterday after Bernie Sanders and his Our Revolution group announced that they will not endorse him for governor. Sam Stein of the Daily Beast first reported that Our Revolution will endorse six Virginia House of Delegates candidates, but not Northam, dealing a serious blow to his support from Democrat grassroots voters two weeks before Election Day.

The Our Revolution group’s refusal to back Northam is notable since they did endorse his primary opponent, Tom Perriello, with Sanders even coming to campaign on his behalf. But not only have Sanders and his group gone “completely dark” since the Democrat primary, they are now openly spurning Northam’s candidacy. With Northam already struggling to rally his base voters after coming out in favor of pipeline projects opposed by many Democrats, Sanders’ refusal to back his campaign will only further weaken his ability to unify Democrats for victory in November.
